When engaging in the instructional design process, storyboarding is an essential element in the designing process. Whether using ADDIE, SAM, Gagne, or Merrill, implementing storyboards ensure for smooth, detailed, comprehensive design planning.
I use a variety of storyboards, depending on the project and purpose, beginning with text-based storyboards to line up the objectives, plan the content, and think forward to evaluation.
When designing courses using Articulate Storyline or Rise360, I use a visual storyboard to plan out the visual layout, text, audio, and navigation features.
Many times, the final product of a course created is the tip of an iceberg of planning, preparation, & execution.
